Learning what type of teacher I have means taking time to come up with a clear image of what a teacher’s expectations are, especially because it varies from teacher to teacher. Some might have high expectations in one area such as handing in work late while another teacher might be more lenient with due dates and instead have higher expectations in a different area.
I use the first few weeks of school as a trial and error type situation to get an idea of exactly what I can expect from each teacher. In a way, I ask myself what I can get away with in each class. For example, I might find that one of my teachers does not check in homework daily but that another one of them does. I can then use the information I have gathered to prioritize what classwork I must complete and what I might be able to finish later when I am running short on time.
All students either consciously or subconsciously use these learning tactics because unfortunately we do not have the time to put all of our effort into each subject we study. Instead, we make decisions regarding the observations we have made or the experiences we have had. We prioritize the things we need to accomplish not just based on our to-do lists but also based off of the facts we have learned about our different teachers.
