Although people have various methods of learning, there are three main types of learning styles that produce varying results for different individuals. These styles of learning are visual, auditory, and kinesthetic. Here is a website that describes the different styles in detail:

People often categorize themselves using these styles. However, In my attempt to categorize myself I realized that I cannot generalize my learning style in total, but rather based upon which style works best for me in a specific situation. Sometimes I even use a mixture of styles in attempt to get the best results. Different tactics vary from person to person, but for me, I find it clear when I prefer to use one style or another.
For example, I tend to prefer a mix of visual learning and kinesthetic learning in situations where I need to memorize or prefect a set of motions, like in dance, playing guitar, or even memorizing a simple hand game. I like to use my visual learning skills to watch someone else and then use kinesthetic learning to practice the technique. I do this repeatedly until I feel that I fully understand.
Situations where I prefer to use the auditory learning style are times where I am trying to remember a song, quote, or poem. It is easiest to hear a person’s voice recite what I am trying to remember. In this way I am able to relate the ups and downs of the voice to the emotions and ideas conveyed in the piece. I can then use my voice to follow the same patterns that I hear.
The style of learning that a person uses should not be categorized in general terms but rather depending on the situation. Some people may lean heavily towards one style of learning in all situations and some people, like myself, might find that they use a variety of learning styles.
